Common Questions: Sponsoring a National Missionary

Below are answers to common questions asked about sponsoring a national missionary. If you have further questions please click here for our contact form.

Can I write to my national missionary?

Because of security reasons and the enormous overhead it would create, we are unable to allow direct correspondence with your national missionaries. Most have little or no knowledge of English, and GFA does not have sufficient staff to translate thousands of personal letters. Most importantly, national missionaries must not be viewed as working for a foreign agency, as this could severely hinder their work among the non-Christian communities and place their lives in danger.

How will I receive news from my missionary?

It is our sincere desire to keep you updated on what is happening on the field. We do this through our SEND! magazine and monthly letters. You will also receive annual updates from your national missionary. These updates will provide you with specific information on your missionary's ministry; the hardships, victories and prayer needs; as well as the latest family news.

Can I send my missionary a special gift?

In the spirit of unity and equality, a policy has been set in our India office not to give special monetary gifts directly to a missionary. However, you may send a monetary gift of any amount and designate it as a special gift for your missionary. While the gift will not be given directly to your missionary, he or she will receive the benefit of the gift in that extra funds will be available to meet personal needs as well as for ministry tools such as Gospel tracts, Bibles, a bicycle, etc.

Will £20 per month be enough to fully support my missionary?

It takes £20 and £60 a month to fully support a national missionary, including family support and ministry expenses. We generally assign several sponsors to each missionary in £20 increments to reach the full support of £20 and £60 a month. Distributing a missionary's support in this manner provides for greater prayer support and prevents the complete loss of income in the event a sponsor is forced to discontinue
