Often referred to as “The Jade Land,” the North Myanmar Region is famous for its natural treasures like jade, copper, gold, coal, sapphires and rubies. These mines are some of the most profitable industries in the area. Many people also make their living through rice farming, fishing or raising livestock.
Several cities in the region, including Sagaing and Mandalay, are centres of culture and religion. It is common to see elaborate Buddhist monasteries and places of worship scattered throughout the North Myanmar Region.
