A Prayer House Is Born

Earnest prayers are never wasted, and God is using one faith-filled woman to reach her community.

Mira, an elderly woman, lives in a bustling city where people work hard and have little time to devote to life’s bigger questions: “Who am I?” and “Is there a God?” Since only a few Christians live in her neighbourhood, Mira must travel to another community to attend church.

The commute to church was once manageable for Mira, but three years ago, she developed severe, chronic knee pain, which limited her mobility. Despite her pain, Mira still attends church as often as she can, with the assistance of her family members. After a GFA leader in the region, Pastor Rogan, noticed Mira’s struggle to regularly attend church, he began consistently praying for a church in her neighborhood. Pastor Rogan then shared with Mira his prayer for her neighbourhood, and he was met with her same desire to offer her residence for times of prayer. It seemed as if the same Holy Spirit living inside of them was at work to achieve the same purpose.

A City Set on a Hill

On a warm summer evening, Pastor Rogan and Mira’s pastor, Bjorn, visited Mira’s house for prayer. During the gathering, Mira tearfully shared her desire to attend Sunday services but how she was restricted due to her knee pain. Her impassioned words moved the pastors to pray fervently for her healing. Although God did not heal her that night, He was preparing something far more glorious for her: a local gathering of believers in her own community that she would one day fellowship with.

As more prayer meetings were held at Mira’s house, a spiritual breakthrough was ignited in her community. Within a short period of time, God added to the prayer gathering eight others from Mira’s community. They were drawn to the gathering after being touched by the power of prayer and the presence of God.

(Pastor Rogan and/or Pastor Bjorn not pictured) When there is not a local church nearby, believers often gather in homes to pray and encourage one another.

Sensing the people’s spiritual hunger, Pastor Rogan and Pastor Bjorn prayerfully decided to officially establish a weekly prayer gathering in Mira’s house.

By God’s grace, another one of Mira’s neighbours has already expressed the desire to attend this prayer gathering! Like a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden (see Matthew 5:14), Mira’s house has now become a beacon of light for the people in her community. One day, through the power of the Holy Spirit and the prayers of these saints, this prayer gathering may grow into a thriving church.
